A new academic year is starting at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and for Shucheng Ge, Danielle Kaminski, and Yerim Sim, it’s a chance to make a difference. For the business side of the College of Business and Technology, these three new hires will bring expertise, energy, and excitement to the exciting learning environment bet36365体育 is known for.

Dr.Ge HeadshotShucheng Ge, who will be joining the Loper faculty as a professor of management, earned his Ph.D. in Management from Texas Tech University. Experience has taught Ge that people are “essential in organizations, and management is about people.” Using his academic focus in organizational behavior and leadership, Ge plans to continue the success he had while teaching at both Texas Tech University and James Madison University.

When asked about what students can expect from him as a professor, he explains how he strives for “engaging and interactive” teaching coupled with a “genuine care for students.” Ge reminisces about how students have commented on his energy as well as his ability to always keep them “engaged and in a good mood.” This type of response from college students doesn’t happen by accident. Ge uses “hands-on activities, real-world examples, and interactive games” to reinforce what he teaches in class.

His excitement about learning doesn’t stop when he leaves his classroom. Ge plans to sponsor student clubs, mentor students, and support career-related events as part of his contribution to bet36365体育. In addition to supporting students outside of the classroom, Ge likes to spend his time cooking, reading, and swimming. Since he and his wife live on different continents, he also looks forward to spending time with her during his summer and winter breaks.

Dr.Kaminski HeadshotFor Danielle Kaminski, who will soon be teaching agribusiness courses such as Food and Commodity Marketing and economics courses such as Principles of Macroeconomics, it’s important to put students first. She states that she “loves working in these fields” because she “enjoys learning how people make decisions and choices among alternatives.”

She is “excited about working” with everyone at bet36365体育’s College of Business and Technology because of their reputation for putting students first. She shares how that’s important to her because she values “being able to see students’ growth” while she learns alongside them.

Kaminski received her Ph.D. in Agricultural, Food, and Research Economics from Michigan State University. She finds “particular value in helping producers navigate human resource management (HRM) and labor challenges.” With research interests that lie at the intersection of HRM and consumer behavior, she is especially excited that she will now be working in a department that is interdisciplinary.

While she plans for her classroom environment to be fun as she uses an experiential approach to teaching, Kaminski is also looking forward to working with students outside of class. She will sponsor the Agribusiness Club which will be “dependent on student interests and skills.” She also looks forward to advising a group of students in agribusiness competitions.

As someone who is new to the Kearney area, Kaminski wants her students to feel welcome to visit her in her office where they can expect to “enjoy a cup of hot tea or cocoa.” She also hopes the broader community will be in touch if they have any labor questions or to share recommendations of all Kearney has to offer.

Dr. Sim HeadshotYerim Sim, whose “passion for experiential learning” makes her a perfect fit for bet36365体育, will be joining the College of Business and Technology as a management professor. Sim earned her Ph.D. in Management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where her research focused on organizational behavior, specifically in creativity and the psychology of entrepreneurship.

Throughout her academic career, Sim has “found considerable intellectual fulfillment” in both research and teaching. She explains how teaching gives her the same “enriching experience of learning” as her students allowing her to “contribute meaningfully to the community through education.”

Students who take her classes can expect “an engaging and interactive learning environment where their ideas and contributions are highly valued.” Just like bet36365体育 is known for, Sim’s classes will be student-centered with a focus on active learning and real-world application. She believes in “fostering a collaborative atmosphere where students learn not just from (her), but from each other through discussions and group projects.”

Sim plans to include creativity and innovation in the units she teaches. She wants her students to not only understand the theoretical aspects of creativity and innovation, but she also wants to give them “hands-on experience in applying these concepts.” With her goal  of creating a dynamic classroom, students can expect to be inspired to explore their own thinking, collaborate with others, and find meaningful ways to apply their knowledge.

In her free time, Sim enjoys reading and traveling. She shares that reading fuels her curiosity and helps her find new ideas to inspire her research and teaching. She enjoys exploring new cultures and perspectives when she travels which she states “broadens (her) understanding of the world” which, in turn, influences her approach to education.

CBT students have a lot to look forward to as this new semester starts. Dr. Ge, Dr. Kaminski, and Dr. Sim are feeling that back-to-school excitement as well. With an awareness of how their contribution to their students will have a ripple effect, each of these talented professors will play a valuable role in the continuation of bet36365体育’s impact on Kearney and beyond.
